Welcome (potential) Partner in the "Connecting Portals"- Project.
This is the home of the new "seePORTALS" web application developed under EasyWay-VIKING and operated as a viability study for European Core Services in ITS, contributing to the European Study Group "Europe-wide Traveler Information Continuity & Co-modality (ESG1)".

    About the project:

[Summary document for down load see here]

The main objectives of the project are:

    • to make information from other portals and services available on regional/national websites by a deep-linking system managed by an automated updating routine with individual selection of the published content
    • to create an open system that can be used bi-directional and by all interested services irrespective of their national/regional affiliation.

This is a networking strategy to overcome limitations resulting from the prevailing national or regional focus of internet platforms and to foster the distribution of information for long distance and border-crossing transport. In the result the system should enable convenient access to Internet based European traveller and traffic information services from the users preferred local site - simply made for use by everyone.

The VIKING pilot will be extended step-by-step to a European network of connected services in the EasyWay area which covers most parts of Europe.

New partners shall be gained to take part in the project. The system is open for geographical extension by involvement of new countries/areas beyond VIKING.

    Point of Reference:

The project focuses on a joint venture based on the idea of "distributed information systems". Facing both the rapid development of Internet and information technologies and today's advanced status of traffic and traveller information distributed via different media, the countries co-operating within the Easyway-VIKING project (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Northern Germany) have decided to replace their common Internet information service in 2010 (see www.travel-and-transport.com). Within the scope of the new pilot project a solution has been studied and developed that enables national/regional Internet portals to embed information from adjacent areas or neighbouring countries in their own web sites (mash up from different sources) instead of operating a joint portal. To a large extent the updating of the embedded information is handled automatically.
